City ARPA Grant Opportunities Now Available!
The American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) of 2021, delivered $350 billion to state, local and tribal governments to aid in recovery from the COVID-19 emergency. The City of Glenarden  received $4 million as a part of the State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds (SLFRF) program.  City Council has designated some of those monies as grants for eligible homeowners, businesses, and non-profits.

Prince George's County 2024 Summer Youth Enrichment Program (SYEP)

Prince George's County is proud to host the SYEP program. Attention, youth aged 14-22! Are you in search of a summer employment opportunity? The County's Summer Youth Enrichment Program (SYEP) provides job readiness training and summer jobs for the youth of the County. Starting March 1, applications will be accepted! Bag it Right (Better Bag Bill)

Effective January 1, 2024, the County implemented the Better Bag Bill?
Prince George’s County prohibits all retail establishments from providing plastic carryout bags to shoppers and, with certain exceptions*, shall charge at least 10 cents for each paper carryout or reusable bag provided to a customer. To assist residents in making the transition, the County will provide a limited amount of free reusable bags and will announce distribution dates and locations once finalized.

The City of Glenarden adheres to the recycling guidelines set forth by the Prince George's County government. For more details, please refer to the provided link here.  Moreover, plastic bags placed in your recycling bin or cart will no longer be collected. Refer to the flyer for details on proper plastic disposal.

UCAP (United Communities Against Poverty) offers a home weatherization program that can reduce your energy costs.  By sealing gaps, adding insulation, and improving your heating and cooling system, weatherization of your home can reduce your energy consumption and lower your utility bills.  See the UCAP flyer in this newsletter for information on eligibility and how to submit an application to UCAP. Introducing Thrive Prince George's Guaranteed Basic Income Program

In partnership with The Greater Washington Community Foundation, and the Meyer Foundation, The Prince George's County Council are thrilled to announce the launch of Thrive Prince George's, a 2-year $4 million guaranteed income pilot program that seeks to economically stabilize the county residents while promoting upwards mobility for more Prince Georgian families. This Guaranteed Basic Income Program was made possible through council resolution CR-018-2023 which was championed by Councilmember Krystal Oriadha.
