The County Council, sitting as the District Council on land-use matters, met virtually on Monday, September 13th. The District Council is granted authority to act on zoning matters by the State of Maryland Regional District Act, in the Land Use Article of the Maryland Annotated Code. Tuesday’s agenda included Oral Arguments, a New Case, and several Items Pending Finality for projects across the County. |
| COUNCIL BRIEFED ON 2021 REDISTRICTING COMMISSION PLAN AND REPORT – COUNCIL VIRTUAL PUBLIC HEARING ON SEPTEMBER 28
During session on Tuesday, September 14th, the County Council received a briefing from the 2021 Prince George’s County Redistricting Commission on its final plan and report submitted on September 1st. Redistricting in Prince George’s County is the process of redrawing legislative districts every ten years, following the completion of the United States Census. The report outlines proposed boundary changes for the County’s nine (9) existing Council districts, based on 2020 census data. Commission Chair, Pastor James J. Robinson; Commissioners Dr. Charlene Mickens Dukes and the Honorable David C. Harrington; and Commission Consultant, Dr. Nathaniel Persily, participated in Tuesday’s presentation to Council Members, thanking residents for their active participation. |

COUNTY COUNCIL AND PLANNING BOARD HOLD VIRTUAL JOINT PUBLIC HEARING ON THE COUNTYWIDE SECTIONAL MAP AMENDMENT
The Prince George’s County Council, sitting as the District Council, and the Prince George’s County Planning Board of The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC) convened a virtual Joint Public Hearing on Monday, September 13th and Tuesday, September 14th, to solicit comments from the public on the Countywide Sectional Map Amendment (CMA).
WATCH TUESDAY’S PUBLIC HEARING
The CMA is the next step to implementing the first update of the County’s 50-year-old Zoning Ordinance. Council Chair Calvin S. Hawkins, II, thanked those who registered to speak at the public hearing. “The continued and active engagement of our residents is critically important to the success of this historic process, and to the future growth and development in Prince George’s County. We are deeply grateful for the partnership and input of Prince Georgians as we move our County forward.”
Nearly 200 residents and stakeholders registered to address the Joint Public Hearing. Council Members heard approximately 10 hours of testimony over the two-day period. The public hearing is part of a process leading to the approval of a new zoning map, thereby implementing the zones contained in the new Zoning Ordinance for Prince George’s County adopted by the Council through CB-13-2018 on October 23, 2018.
