Proposed 5G Small Cells Coming to Glenarden

In September 2018, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) entered a Declaratory Ruling that mandates local governments allow the installation of small wireless facilities (“small cells”) to allow for deployment of fifth-generation (5G) wireless technology.

In May 2023 Crown Castle came to the City of Glenarden and met with Mayor Cashenna Cross, Councilman Maurice Hairston and Councilman James Herring to discuss the installation of small cells in Ward 1 and Ward 2.  They spoke on the economic impact and how 5G is needed for today’s technology.  They will be installed on existing telephone lines

Crown Castle is proposing to install 12 small cells in Wards 1 and 2.  They are looking at installing the small cells on the following streets; Johnson Ave, Tyler St, Hubbard Rd, Martin Luther King Jr Hwy, Hayes St in Ward 1 and Barlowe Rd, Reed St, Johnson Ave, McLain and Wesley St in Ward 2.

A public hearing will be scheduled to brief the citizens on this proposal and to give the opportunity ask questions and/or voice their concerns. In the meantime please view Crown Castle’s presentation - Preparing Communities for the Future.
